James was trying to come to grips with what was going on. He must of hit his head harder then he thought. He had to be passed out, or in a coma dreaming somewhere. Sirens brought James back into reality. He looked out of the garage door windows just in time to see three cop cars flying by. As he was watching this, there was an explosion about a block away. “What the fuck is going on?” James said out loud. Right then the radio in his car started to broadcast the emergency alert broadcast. He leaned over the hood of his car to try and hear over the banging of the crazies outside. James heard “At this time the authorities are trying to ascertain the situation. They recommend that you stay indoors and lock all your doors and windows. Do not approach anyone who appears sick or injured”.
James realized that the banging had stopped. He looked up in time to see the man running towards the back of the car. James immediately realized his mistake. He had led them to the side of the garage where there was a gapping hole in the wall. The crazy man was climbing over the top of the car already. James tried to run to the door that led into the house, but he had forgotten about his ankle injury. James fell hard against the old truck that was parked in the garage. He heard the crazy man behind him, and turned just as the man reached and grabbed a hold of James. Instinctively James shoved the crazy man back and swung the jack handle as hard as he could. He hit the crazy square in the temple. The crazy went down and didn’t get back up.
James was paralyzed with fear. He had just killed a man. It was self defense, but what if the cops didn’t believe him? He heard a noise and looked up to see the old lady trying to get over the back of the car. He could see a gaping hole where her stomach should be. It dawned on him that there was something seriously wrong going on. He took the jack handle out of the crazy mans head and went inside before the old lady could get inside the garage.
James locked the door that led into the garage. He had to try and find a phone so that he could call his girlfriend Alyssa. He made his was from the kitchen into the living room. There was an old rotary phone on a table in the corner. He picked up the receiver and impatiently dialed her number. It went to her voicemail. James began to panic but realized that she wasn’t off work yet. She was the night cashier at the 7/11 a few blocks from where they lived. He dialed the store and she answered on the third ring. “Are you okay?” James asked her. “I’m fine” she said “What’s wrong”? “Something is happening; I want you to go home now”! “I can’t leave James, my replacement doesn’t come for another hour”. “I don’t care I want you to leave now, go straight home, and lock all the doors and windows” James told her. “James you are scaring me, what is going on” she asked him. “I can’t explain now, but it is important that you listen to me!” Just then James heard her say to a customer ”I’ll be right with you, just one moment”. Then there was a scream, and the phone went dead.
